18 November 2011, Stockholm - Today Polystar proudly announced the latest release of the test tool Solver 4.11, which includes Voice over LTE. This makes Polystar the first company to provide this highly awaited function.
We had a chat about the new release with Hans Edman, the Program Director of Solver, to hear what he had to say about it.
Why was this feature developed for the testing tool?
VoLTE is seen as the most probable voice technology of the 4G networks, by a majority of operators and mobile network vendors. Hence, it is natural that Polystar is in the forefront by developing this feature, allowing our customers to efficiently test voice handling and also the voice quality of 4G in their labs and networks.
What are the advantages of Solver compared to other test tools regarding voice testing?
Through our close cooperation with mobile network vendors, we have become experts at voice testing. Also, the Solver tool has evolved to be complex enough to handle the common use case scenarios regarding mobility and handover in all mobile core networks. Testing the common voice technologies in EPC suits our tool perfectly, through combining our fields of expertise.
Are there any other important updates planned for this year?
Certainly. The following releases this year will, for example, introduce a state-of-the-art reporting tool with almost limitless possibilities to examine and present signalling data. There will also be an extended inter-system handover simulation, a new Solver interface for simulating GPRS, and support for TCP on the LTE S1 interface.
What is the next step for Polystar within VoLTE?
The first version of VoLTE handles testing IMS by simulating EPC. In 2012, there will be an end-to-end VoLTE, which is simulating tunnelled VoIP from the E-UTRAN network. It is highly likely that Polystar will also offer test simulations of the remaining voice technologies CS Fallback and SRVCC. Solver will also then have a significantly higher capacity.
Combined with the efficiency that is the trademark of Solver, this will ensure that the testing tool will continue to provide value for operators and vendors in the coming years through cost-reduced testing.
